Land Birds: Songbirds

Parulas, Redstarts, Wood-Warblers, Waterthrushes

Wood-warblers (54 species) are, with the exception of Olive Warbler, all in the family Parulidae. They are small, active birds with short, pointed bills. Most build a cup nest, but Lucy’s and Prothonotary nest in cavities.

Crossley says the key is to learn their size, shape, behavior and just one or two plumage features for each species. (That’s >100 plumage features to memorize!)
