Catbirds (2 species), Mockingbirds (2 species) & Thrashers (7 species) are Mimids - long-tailed songbirds with long, sturdy bills that are suited for foraging on the ground.

The Northern Mockingbird is renowned for its complex, ebullient, mimicking song. Gray Catbird can recognize cowbird eggs and eject them from its nest—an ability that is learned, not innate. Thrashers are quite vocal and often heard before they are seen.
