Waterbirds: Walkers

Sandpipers, Willet

Peeps are challenging to identify and often occur in mixed flocks. Non-breeding plumage (as is typically seen in the San Francisco Bay Area during winter) is often bland. Willet, on the other hand, has a striking black-and-white wing pattern. Western Willets migrate from the coast to breed at inland wetlands.

Sandpiper photography involves groveling around in the mud - not so great for camera gear!
