Land Birds: Songbirds
Shrikes, Vireos, Larks
The 2 species of shrike (Northern, Loggerhead) are similar in appearance but their ranges only overlap in winter. They are predatory songbirds that eat insects, small mammals and birds.
Viroes (15 species) are small, stocky songbirds with large, hooked bills. Their preferred habitat is dense brush or trees, where they feed on berries and insects.
Two lark species are recorded but the Sky Lark is very uncommon. Horned Lark is found on barren ground with short grass and is widely distributed across USA.
