Waterbirds: Walkers

Coots, Cranes, Limpkin, Moorhens, Rails

Twelve species, all of which inhabit marshy wetlands and feed on plants and small animals. Some (e.g.: Cranes) are large, noisy, and conspicuous, while others (e.g.: Rails) are very secretive. Sandhill Cranes are regular winter visitors to California’s Central Valley.
