Land Birds: Fliers
Swallows, Swifts, Goatsuckers
Swifts (4 species) and swallows (9 species) are truly aerial specialists. Goatsuckers include nightjars (4 species) and nighthawks (3 species). On a quiet Californian night, one can often enjoy the Common Poorwill’s song. The Common Nighthawk gives spectacular dive displays that end in a loud “hoooov” that is created by wind turbulence on their feathers.
